Security Operations - Executive Assistant Administrator

Melanie Harvey is the Executive Assistant Administrator for Security Operations. Prior to assuming her current role in December 2022, she served as the Deputy Executive Assistant Administrator for Security Operations, overseeing Domestic Aviation Operations, International Operations, Compliance, Operations Management and Surface Operations. Harvey is responsible for managing a workforce of over 55,000 employees worldwide and a $5.7 billion annual budget.

Harvey is responsible for checkpoint and baggage screening operations impacting millions of passengers at approximately 430 federalized airports every day; oversight of TSA’s global compliance mission and more than 280 international airports conducting last points of departure operations to and from the U.S.; and ensuring all modes of transportation, including aviation, air cargo, freight and passenger rail, mass transit, highway and motor carrier, maritime, pipelines are in compliance with domestic and international regulatory requirements.

Harvey joined TSA in 2004 and has held various positions at headquarters and in the field in Security Operations, Human Capital, and Training and Development. Her private sector experience includes Booz Allen Hamilton and Science Applications International Corporation, where she consulted on complex acquisitions for a variety of government and Fortune 500 clients. As an outstanding scholar intern with the Naval Sea Systems Command, she negotiated contracts for ship conversion and construction.

Harvey earned honors degrees in economics and political science from Frostburg State University in 1996 and is a graduate of TSA’s Senior Leadership Development Program.
