A TSA officer at Augusta Regional Airport lines up golf bags to be screened before they are loaded on aircraft.  In the days following the PGA Masters at Augusta National, officers screen hundreds of golf items brought to the airport by departing passengers.

AUGUSTA, Ga.– The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) would like to remind Augusta Regional Airport (AGS) passengers to expect higher than usual volume over the next week (April 10-15) as travelers return home from the 2024 PGA Masters® at the Augusta National Golf Club.

This year, AGS could see record-breaking passenger volumes over the next several days with the heaviest concentration falling today, Friday, April 12 and Monday, April 15.

TSA, the airport and airlines have worked together over the past few months to prepare for the busy travel period, and additional TSA officers and canines will be on hand to assist with the screening of passengers and luggage. Passengers are urged to arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to their scheduled departure time for flights throughout the next week.

In the days immediately after the championship, TSA also sees a large increase in baggage and golf bags. Golf bags that alarm often have to be opened and screened by hand, which can cause delays.

Passengers traveling with golf bags can help expedite the screening process by removing prohibited items from their them and allowing additional time for screening of these items. Those carrying golf items should also ensure the items being checked are clean, as environmental debris or residue can trigger alarms and slow down the screening process.

For more information on what is and isn’t allowed onboard aircraft, visit the “What Can I Bring?” tool on the TSA website.
