SEATTLE - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is hiring Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to work at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). There are 72 full- and part-time positions currently available at SEA. Starting salary is $19.89 per hour.

As an incentive, TSA will pay newly-hired TSOs at SEA $500 upon starting with the agency and $500 after one year of service with TSA. To qualify for the recruitment incentive, the employee must come onboard with TSA between now and September 30, 2021.

“TSA at SEA has immediate openings for those who want to join our first-class transportation security team,” said TSA Federal Security Director for Washington Jeff Holmgren. “If you are looking for a fast-paced work environment and a job with excellent benefits, come see what we have to offer.”

To accelerate the hiring process, TSA is hosting a two-day recruitment event Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15. It will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Seattle Airport located at 18740 International Boulevard. Access the event via the Tower Entrance. The hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day and no appointment is necessary. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the SeaTac/Airport light rail station. On-site parking is available for $8.

Based on anticipated seasonal travel trends in the months ahead and the fact that the COVID-19 vaccination is available to the general public, TSA launched local and national efforts to recruit new employees in support of security screening operations.

TSOs at SEA are federal employees. Benefits include paid training, annual and sick leave, health care plans for full- and part-time employees and a generous retirement plan. TSA does not prorate benefits for part-time workers, and veteran’s preference is not required to join the agency.

After six months, TSOs are eligible for pay increases and those who work early mornings, evenings and Sundays receive a shift differential. Overtime opportunities, which are paid at time and a half, are frequently available. TSA is committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment and encourages individuals of all backgrounds to apply.

At the recruitment session, interested candidates will attend an information session to learn more about the TSO position, apply to become a TSO, take a computer-based test to evaluate aptitude and English language proficiency and participate in a structured interview session. Completion of the process may take three to five hours. Applicants are asked to bring two forms of identification with them. Face masks are required.

For more information on the duties, of a TSO and to learn a little more about TSA’s mission, a video titled “Day in the Life of a TSO” is available.
