WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration announced today that its well known Instagram account reached one million followers after just six years of activity. Known for its images of bizarre, dangerous and prohibited items that people have attempted to board an aircraft with, Instagram.com/TSA was launched on June 27, 2013 voiced by TSA’s own ‘Blogger Bob’and was honored by three Webby Awards in 2018.
TSA’s Instagram takes a tongue in cheek approach to guide travelers in their checkpoint adventure by highlighting prohibited and artfully concealed items, providing travel tips, and gives reminders about busy travel seasons. The post responsible for the 1 millionth follower: a post for #NationalVideogameDay.
TSA’s Instagram stories allow the public to ask travel questions under “Ask Me Anything,” responding with information about security screening policies while reaching larger audiences. Travelers also are able to engage directly with TSA via @AskTSA on Facebook and Twitter and can ask questions in real time to be better prepared for the security screening process.
