WASHINGTON - During the course of the past two weeks, the Transportation Security Administration has seen its dedicated workforce hit by COVID-19. We have seen this in the increasing number of confirmed cases, the growing number of employees who have been exposed to the virus and in those who have chosen to self-isolate at home due to being at higher risk for contracting COVID-19 if exposed.
We continue to see officers demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism and hard work as they report to duty to screen passengers and their belongings to help ensure the traveling public remains safe and secure during this challenging time.
TSA leadership remains committed to being as transparent as possible in providing the public with information about the status of our employees while respecting our employees’ privacy. Our goal is to enable travelers to make sound personal decisions about steps they may want to take to ensure their health and well-being as they pass through the security screening process.
We have been issuing statements as new cases of COVID-19 are confirmed among the TSA workforce in addition to providing a detailed map and matrix. As we move forward, instead of issuing individual statements, TSA will only post updates via the confirmed cases matrix and map, and remove cases that exceed the 14-day safety window where travelers could have potentially been exposed to officers who have been diagnosed with the virus.
TSA will also continue to follow guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regarding workforce protection.
Our mission is to protect the nation’s transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce, and during this national emergency concerning the COVID-19 outbreak, we will continue to accomplish that mission daily.
