Assistant Administrator for Strategic Communications and Public Affairs

Alexa Lopez was named Assistant Administrator for Strategic Communications and Public Affairs in February 2021. Lopez serves as advisor to TSA’s senior leadership on all external and internal communications, specifically employee, public, industry and media engagement. She also directs the agency’s strategy for media relations, social media, marketing and communications production.

Most recently, she served as the Senior Manager of Public Affairs and Media Relations for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), overseeing all media relations for the Society and its frequently cited Infrastructure Report Card. 

Prior to ASCE, she worked at Ogilvy Public Relations as an Account Supervisor/Media Relations Specialist onsite at the National Institute on Drug Abuse and under DHS as the FEMA Press Secretary. She also served in several positions including the Communications Director for the City of Bloomington, Indiana and the Associate Director of the +Kelley graduate program at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. 

Lopez holds a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University in English/Political Science/Philosophy. She also has a Master of Public Affairs and Master of Arts in Arts Administration from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
