Tina Cariola

Tina Cariola is the Assistant Administrator (AA) for Training and Development (T&D) and the Chief Learning Officer for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Ms. Cariola executes an annual budget of $150 million, while overseeing the technical training, leadership coursework, and career-development programs for more than 60,000 employees at 450 airports nationwide. Before her formal appointment to the role of AA, Ms. Cariola served as the Executive Director of T&D’s Training Centers Division, where she led virtual and in-person instruction at TSA’s training locations across the country.

Prior to this role, Ms. Cariola managed programs in transportation security, leadership education, and emerging technologies as the Director of T&D’s Training Operations Division. She also oversaw TSA’s Online Learning Center, which is the agency’s official learning management system with more than five million training events recorded each year.  

Ms. Cariola joined TSA in 2003. Throughout her tenure, she has served in a variety of mission-support roles across the agency, including Staff Director in the Office of the Deputy Administrator, Program Manager in the Office of Business Transformation and Culture, and the first-ever Program Manager for TSA’s IdeaFactory. Ms. Cariola also served on TSA’s inaugural Diversity Advisory Council, and she was a member of the agency’s first Inclusion Action Committee. She is currently the Vice-Chair of Women Excel @TSA.

Before working at TSA, Ms. Cariola held leadership positions for a nonprofit educational organization and performed strategic consulting services for a small management consulting firm. She started her career as a financial auditor for Abbott Laboratories and Arthur Andersen LLP. Ms. Cariola received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, later earning her Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland. She is a 2017 graduate of the Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program.
